Further to my email of yesterday, I have received numerous calls and questions as to what is happening with snow clearing.

Unfortunately, City staff, supported by the Mayor, decided that we did not need to clear the streets and sidewalks.
Bicycle lane on Richmond Street East downtown snow was cleaned
Finch Ave East sidewalk snow not cleared
This is a snow storm, like the others we have had this winter, and the City should have cleaned the snow.
The City, however, did clear bicycle paths downtown. Meanwhile our residents had to walk on the street because the sidewalk had not been cleared.
People have called and emailed me with respect to placing a claim into the City for damages that they incurred due to physical injury or property damage.
Here is what you need to do if you want to file a claim for damages or personal injury which you incurred because of the storm:
Claims against the City of Toronto
Note: February 16, 2017 – Due to the recent severe winter weather and fluctuating temperatures, the City is experiencing higher than normal claim volumes. As a result, acknowledgements from the City Clerk’s Office and ClaimsPro may not meet the target of two business days.
My phone has not stopped ringing off the hook today with the response which you have had in regards to snow plowing.
I have received emails that the municipality of the City of Markham has done a better job at cleaning their snow.
I have been on the phone and email with City of Toronto Transportation department staff and I am getting answers that they will address our concerns as best as possible.

Last week, our community experienced a tragedy with the loss of little Duncan Xu.
I join you in expressing our condolences and prayers to his family and to the Kennedy Public School Community. Losing a child is not an easy thing for the family to go through.
In response to the death of Duncan, we are taking more measures to make sure that our school community is safe. I ask that you please drive safely and obey the traffic laws. Traffic laws were developed to ensure the safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians. There is no excuse to disobey them. If everyone follows the laws, it will go a long way to ensure that our children can go to and from school safely.

A PARKING REMINDER – Winter is here and the City needs to clear snow when it falls. Cars that are parked on streets during the day and night interfere with snow plow operations. Please do not park your cars on the road so that our roads can be cleared quickly and our streets stay safe.
Happy New Year may 2018 be healthy and prosperous for you and your family.
I have been working to deliver on the promise of a Fundy Bay Skateboard Park and playground enhancements. In December, I hosted a public meeting with City staff and the design consultant where residents were invited to provide feedback on the proposed plans. The consultation phase is now complete.
