I would like to extend best wishes to members of the Canadian Indian community on the occasion of India Independence Day.
I would like to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Pakistani community on the occasion of Pakistan Independence Day, also known as Yom-e-Azadi.
On August 14, 1947, Pakistan gained its independence from what was known, at the time, as British Raj or British rule.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of the shooting at the Muzik nightclub on August 4, 2015. I pray that those who have been injured quickly recover and that all who are suffering have the strength they will need in the weeks and months to come.

I am writing to you as a City Councillor to ask that the Toronto Police Service uphold the Ontario Highway Traffic Act with respect to the drivers, who are using personal motor vehicles to transport paying passenger(s) in contravention of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
“Uber drivers routinely rely upon personal auto policies, which exclude the commercial activity of carrying paying passengers leaving Uber’s passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, occupants of other vehicles and Uber drivers exposed to uninsured risk in the event of a claim.
July 28, 2015 – Public and industry input invited on regulations for Toronto’s ground transportation industry
The City of Toronto is undertaking a review of the operations of Uber and similar technologies, including the public’s interest in them and their impacts on Toronto’s taxicab and limousine industries.
Based on information from Environment Canada, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a Heat Alert for Toronto today. The Heat Alert will be in effect until further notice.
During a Heat Alert, the public is encouraged to call or visit family, friends and neighbours, especially isolated adults and seniors who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness, to make sure they are cool and drinking plenty of fluids. Other groups at risk include people with chronic illnesses, individuals with limited mobility or certain mental health illnesses, infants and young children, people on certain medications, and those who are homeless.
TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, has written to the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) questioning the non-payment of HST by Uber.
“I received a copy of an email between an Uber user and Uber indicating that ‘There is no tax charged on the rides. We also do not charge and [any] HST.’” said Mr. Karygiannis. “I do not understand how any company, operating in Canada, can avoid paying the HST.”
As Eidul Fitr approaches, marking the end of Ramadan, I would like to offer warm regards to all who are observing this religious holiday.
The right to worship and observe the tenets of one’s faith is a basic right and is protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
July 14, 2015 – Statement By Jim Karygiannis – Pan Am Visitors – UberX passengers of unlicensed taxis can now be possibly fined up to $20,000
“I want to take this time to welcome visitors to Toronto who are here to enjoy the Pan Am Games as well as all of the other cultural festivals & events occurring in our city.
I am a strong believer in improved passenger safety and consumer protection. My statement today serves to achieve both.
