I was very pleased to learn that Colin Rutherford has been released by his Afghani captors.
Colin was travelling in Afghanistan five years ago when he was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan. In June, 2011, Colin’s mother, came to me indicating that her son had been travelling in Afghanistan and had gone missing. I called on the Government of the day to work toward freeing Colin. I also met with officials from Foreign Affairs who advised me that they were working, in a number of areas, in order to free Colin.
TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, says the announcement by Aviva Canada, to insure ride-sharing drivers, isn’t as ‘cut and dry’ as it seems.
“As of next month, Aviva Canada will offer insurance coverage to certain ride-sharing drivers.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “While the company is addressing the matter of insurance, the initiative is short on details and raises important questions.”

Kwanzaa, is a week-long celebration, held in the United States and in other nations of the Western African Diaspora in the Americas. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving.
