February 19, 2015 – Seollal – Korean New Year

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Korean community on the occasion of Seollal or Korean New Year.

Seollal is the first day of the lunar calendar and is a family holiday which lasts three days.  Many people return to their hometowns to visit their parents and other relatives.

February 15, 2015 – Serbian National Day

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Serbian community on the occasion of Serbian National Day.

Serbian National Day is observed on February 15th and marks the anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 and the adoption of the first Serbian Constitution in 1835.

February 7, 2015 – Grenadian Independence Day

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Grenadian community on the occasion of Grenadian Independence Day.

On February 7, 1974, Grenada was granted independence from the United Kingdom and became a sovereign nation – the first country in the Eastern Caribbean to attain this status.  In the years immediately preceding independence, Grenada was known as an “Associated State of the United Kingdom”, which meant that it was responsible for its own internal affairs while the United Kingdom was responsible for defence and foreign affairs.
