Karygiannis questions impact of City report on new and emerging technologies in for-hire ground transportation industry

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, believes a City of Toronto staff report on the current for-hire ground transportation industry establishes two sets of rules – one for hard working taxi cab drivers and one for off shore billionaires.

“The people of Toronto believe in fairness for hard working individuals.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “The proposals in the City report will allow Uber to continue operating as it has, with no respect for laws, rules and regulations.”

Olympics come with a high price tag.  The last time Canada held the summer Olympics was 39 years ago in Montreal and it left the city with a debt of nearly US$1.48 billion.

“I know first hand the effects Olympics can have on a city and a country.  Greece hosted the Olympics in 2004” stated Mr. Karygiannis.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Armenian community and the people of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) on the occasion of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) Independence Day.

On December 10, 1991, days before the official dissolution of the Soviet Union, a referendum on independence was held in Nagorno Karabakh. The overwhelming majority of Artsakh’s population voted in favour of independence.
