December 2, 2015- Karygiannis concerned about TDSB workshop flyer recruiting UBER drivers

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, has written to the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour; the Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities; and, Ms. Robin Pilkey, Chair of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), expressing his concern about a flyer issued by Employment Ontario advertising a workshop entitled “U B E R Hiring Event”.

Karygiannis concerned about Uber recruitment of new Canadians as Uberx drivers

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, has written to community organizations, which assist in the settlement of new Canadians, warning them that Transportation Network Company in Canada (also known as Uber) are possibly recruiting new immigrants as drivers.

“New immigrants are eager to find employment so they can look after their families.” said Mr. Karygiannis.  “They want to become active members of Canadian society.  Uber is taking advantage of them.”

November 13, 2015 – Karygiannis questions process involved in federal government announcement to stop expansion of Toronto Island Airport

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, is concerned that the Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau, announced, on Twitter, last night that the federal government will not re-open the tripartite agreement for the Toronto Island Airport.
