TORONTO, ON – Jim Karygiannis, City Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt is calling on the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario to stop any discussion of taxing medical cannabis ahead of the legalization of marijuana sales expected next year.
It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commemorate with you, the events of ‘Black July 1983’.
Today, we pause to remember this atrocity which was committed thirty years ago against civilians in Sri Lanka . Close to 4,000 people were killed, tens of thousands of homes and commercial organizations were destroyed.
Today, I commemorate with you the tragic events and enduring consequences of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on July 20 1974, that continues to this day. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives during the summer of 1974 and hope that the pursuit of justice will help to honour their memories.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend best wishes to members of the South Korean community in Canada on the occasion of South Korean Constitution Day. The South Korean Constitution or The Constitution of the Republic of Korea was proclaimed on July 17, 1948 three years after the Allied victory in World War II, ending the 35-year colonial rule of Korea by the Japanese Empire.
