February 1. 2015 – Black History Month

February is Black History Month in Canada – a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of people of African descent to the Canadian mosaic.

The first national recognition of Black History Month was in February 1996.

January 29, 2016 – Councillor concerned about City request for No Board Report

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, expressed his concern that the City of Toronto has asked for a No Board Report from the Ontario Minister of Labour with respect to the collective agreement bargaining between the City of Toronto and the Toronto Civic Employees Union (CUPE) Local 416, which represents the City of Toronto’s outside workers.

Karygiannis moves Motion to take Uber to Court

Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, moved a Motion asking City of Toronto solicitors to commence legal proceedings against Uber, based on the September 2015, City Council amendment to Chapter 545 of the City of Toronto Municipal Code (the Code) which changed the definition of “taxicab brokerage” to include the operations of the Uber.

TORONTO – In response to a letter to City of Toronto solicitors, Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, is proposing a Motion asking City of Toronto solicitors to commence legal proceedings against Uber based on the September 2015, City Council amendment to Chapter 545 of the City of Toronto Municipal Code (the Code) to change the definition of “taxicab brokerage” in order to include the operations of the Uber.

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt, has written to the Minister of Finance, Charles Sousa; the Minister of Transportation, Steven del Duca; and, officials at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, requesting answers to a number of questions with respect to Aviva Canada’s proposed new insurance coverage for UberX drivers.
