I would like to take this opportunity to wish all residents of Toronto a Happy Victoria Day.
Queen Victoria’s birthday, May 24th, has been celebrated in Canada since before Confederation. In 1845, the Parliament of the Province of Canada passed legislation to officially recognize May 24th as the Queen’s birthday.
Today, the Monday before May 25th is known as Victoria Day. Following her coronation in 1953, that day is also recognized as the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
On the morning of May 20, 1941, the skies above Crete were filled with a strange new phenomenon – thousands of Nazi paratroopers landed in a massive invasion of the island, the first German airborne invasion in history code named ‘Operation Mercury’.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Buddhist faith in Canada on the occasion of Vesak Day.
Vesak is a significant day in the Buddhist calendar as it marks the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Gautama Buddha.
It is with a deep sense of reverence that I commemorate, with members of the Pontian community, the 102nd Anniversary of the Pontian Genocide.
We pause to remember an atrocity perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire – the deaths of three hundred and fifty thousand Greeks between 1914 and 1922. We also remember the 1.25 million individuals who were deported.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Somaliland community on the occasion of Somaliland Independence Day.
Somaliland, located in the Horn of Africa, asserted its independence as the Republic of Somaliland on May 18, 1991.
We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming

Council Highlights important to Ward 39
Toronto City Council meeting of May 3, 4 and 5, 2016
The Agincourt Community Services Association Food Bank located at 1911 Kennedy Road, Unit 105, in the ACSA Dorset Park Community Hub, is struggling to provide food hampers adequate to the needs of its clients and requires greater community support in raising donations.
This month Hydro One will be completing vegetation maintenance work along the transmission corridor in our neighbourhood, between McNicoll Avenue and Steeles Avenue.
This work is critical to ensure a safe and reliable supply of power to Toronto Hydro customers and to minimize the risk of power outages. It also allows crews safe access to perform required repairs on our equipment and keeps the corridor safe for public use.
Enbridge GTA Project Update
The construction of the fifty kilometer Enbridge GTA Project has been completed. The area in Ward 39 that was affected was the utility corridor that runs parallel to Pharmacy Avenue south from Steeles Avenue East to Finch Avenue East.
Spring is here! As you prepare to enjoy the great weather ahead, we have put
together some helpful information in this report. We look forward to
welcoming you to my upcoming Community Compost Day on Saturday,
May 28th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Bridlewood Mall.
