March 23rd, 2019 – Pakistan Republic Day
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Pakistani community on the occasion of Pakistan Republic Day.
March 23rd, known as Pakistan Republic Day, is a very significant day in the history of Pakistan – commemorating the adoption of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940 by the All India Muslim League. The resolution demanded a separate and independent state for the Muslims of South Asia. Seven years later, the Dominion of Pakistan was founded.
March 23rd, 1956 also marked the adoption of the First Constitution during Pakistan’s transition from a Dominion to a Republic, officially making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic Republic state.
In commemoration of Pakistan Republic Day, a large full-service military parade is held in the capital of Islamabad and broadcasted live throughout the nation. On this day, national awards and medals are also conferred by the President of Pakistan at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the official residence and workplace of the President.
Toronto is a proud multicultural City that embraces a wide variety of cultures and faiths. Our City flourishes because of the diversity of people who have chosen to make Toronto their home. It is important to recognize each and every community that plays a part in enhancing Toronto’s social and cultural landscape.
As the Newcomer’s Advocate with the City of Toronto I strongly believe that we must work to together to promote togetherness. We must Respect our newcomer communities. We must Accept our newcomer communities. We should Celebrate our diversity and Embrace our different cultures and traditions, because we are all part of the human RACE.
