Karygiannis calls for Sheppard Subway Extension under new City/Province Agreement

TORONTO – Jim Karygiannis, Councillor for Ward 22, Scarborough-Agincourt, introduced a successful Motion at the October City Council meeting calling for the Provincial and Federal give serious consideration of extending the Sheppard Subway during their upcoming budget planning process.

“I have promised my constituents that I would advocate for the extension of the Sheppard Subway line.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “The new agreement between the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario offers an excellent opportunity to ensure that the extension happens.”

The Motion reads as follows:

“That City Council request the City Manager to communicate to the Provincial and Federal Governments that, in future stages of transit planning, they strong consider extending the current Sheppard Subway to connect with the new proposed subway station at Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road and to identify this in their upcoming budget processes.”

“I am looking forward to working with both the City and the Province as the detailed agreement Sheppard Subway extension is developed.” Mr. Karygiannis stated. “We have waited a long time for the extension.  Now, I hope, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
