July 4, 2019 – Independence Day of the United States of America

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the American community in Canada on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America, also referred to as the Fourth of July.

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, which proclaimed that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject to British rule. The Thirteen Colonies thus became sovereign states, taking the first steps towards eventually unifying as the first states of the United States of America. Each year on July 4th, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event.

American Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games and family fun.

Toronto is a proud multicultural City that embraces a wide variety of cultures and faiths.  Our City flourishes because of the diversity of people who have chosen to make Toronto their home. It is important to recognize each and every community that plays a part in enhancing Toronto’s social and cultural landscape.

As the Newcomer’s Advocate with the City of Toronto I strongly believe that we must work to together to promote togetherness. We must Respect our newcomer communities. We must Accept our newcomer communities. We should Celebrate our diversity and Embrace our different cultures and traditions, because we are all part of the human RACE.
