March Break activities offered by the City of Toronto

Monday, March 12 to Friday, March 16 is March Break for elementary and high school students in Toronto. The City of Toronto will offer many free and affordable activities for students and their families that week.

“With March Break just around the corner City of Toronto has a number of activities that are fun for the whole family,” said Councillor Jim Karygiannis. “I encourage all ward 39 residents and Torontonians to get out and enjoy Toronto rinks, parks, cultural and historic sites.”     Click here for more information

Join over 200,000 residents, students, businesses, organizations and community groups as we come together for the 15th annual city-wide cleanup of public spaces.

  • Community Cleanup Days: Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22
  • Corporate 20-Minute Makeover: Friday, April 20
  • School Cleanup Day: Friday, April 20

It’s important to register your cleanup event. The City will support registered cleanups with litter and recycling bags and special litter collection, subject to approval. Registering your event also ensures that multiple groups do not gather to clean up the same location.

  • 80 Corporate Cleanups

TAX PREPARATION Assistance Program

The Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario has partnered with two community agencies in Scarborough to provide free electronic personal income tax preparation (EFILE) services to qualified low-income residents. CPA volunteers will be holding a number of sessions in March 2018 on weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Free tax preparation service is available to individuals:

  • without dependents with a gross household income of less than $30,000
  • with dependents, including a spouse or equivalent, with a gross household income of less than $40,000
  • with each additional dependent, an additional income of less than $2,500

CPA volunteers do not prepare complex returns, such as returns for individuals who:

  • have self-employed income, rental income or business income
  • have capital gains or losses
  • have employment expenses
  • have interest/investment income greater than $1,000
  • file for bankruptcy or were deceased within the year

THE LOCAL PROJECT

A multi-year construction program to expand and improve a 17-kilometre segment of GO Transit’s Stouffville line in Scarborough and Markham is well underway. Expanding GO service in both directions means upgrading the existing rail corridor by: electrifying the corridor, adding a second track and related signals, and making improvements to stations and railway crossings.

No overnight parking in the ward north of Finch Ave E.

Following a poll that was done in our ward last year with over whelming support and the successful trial program between Birchmount and Kennedy north of Finch Ave, I am pleased to announce that the total Ward 39 north of Finch Ave E will be no parking overnight from 2:00am to 6:00am. Signs will be placed over the next 12-18 months in our streets. Please be aware of this change and watch for signs on your street. This will also increase the cost of the fine to $50 per infraction
