July 11, 2017 – Imamat Day
I would like to take this opportunity to extend best wishes to members of the Ismaili community in Canada on the occasion of Imamat Day.
Today, July 11, 2017, Ismaili Muslims in Canada and throughout the world are marking the 60th anniversary of the accession of His Highness the Aga Khan as Imam of the Shi’a Ismaili Muslims.
Events and celebrations will mark the beginning of His Highness’ Diamond Jubilee, with celebrations spanning over the next twelve months. This year will be an observance of Aga Khan’s vision and work which has steered the Ismaili community throughout the past sixty years.
Imamat Day is a time to give thanks to the Imam for providing spiritual guidance and working to improve the quality and security of the lives of the faithful. It is also a time for Ismailis to re-affirm their devotion to the Imam and renew their commitment to the tenets of their faith.
Toronto is a proud multicultural city that embraces a wide variety of cultures and faiths. Our city flourishes because of the diversity of people who have chosen to make Toronto their home. As we celebrate Canada 150 this year, it is important to recognize each and every community that plays a part in enhancing Toronto’s social and cultural landscape.
As the Newcomer’s Advocate with the City of Toronto I strongly believe that we must work to together to promote togetherness. We must Respect our newcomer communities. We must Accept our newcomer communities. We should Celebrate our diversity and Embrace our different cultures and traditions, because we are all part of the human RACE.
Diamond Jubilee Imamat Day Mubarak!
