June 10, 2017 – Portugal Day
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Portuguese community on the occasion of Portugal Day.
Every year on the 10th of June, the Portuguese celebrate their national Holiday known as Dia de Portugal. This date commemorates the death of Luis de Camões, a significant figure in the history of Portugal. Camões was best known for his work on Lusidias, the national poem of Portugal that celebrates the nation’s successes and rich history.
Portugal Day is celebrated with art exhibitions, special breakfasts, folk festivals and sports tournaments.
