July 1, 2016 – Canada Day
Today, we celebrate Canada Day – Canada’s 149th Birthday. Canadians, across the land and overseas, will join together in July 1st festivities.
Whether they gather on Signal Hill, overlooking St. John’s harbour, for the pre-dawn flag raising ceremony; witness the noontime 21 gun salute and fly past on Parliament Hill; march in parades; attend concerts and BBQs; watch fireworks; are sworn in as Canadian citizens at special sessions of Citizenship Court; or, celebrate Canada Day abroad – July 1st is an important day for all Canadians.
Canada Day is an opportunity to re-discover our shared heritage; recall our successes; and, more importantly, to look to the future. Our future is built on the confidence we derive from having made Canada a truly open, welcoming and free country. Based on the legacy of our forefathers, Canada stands as a symbol of justice, progress and inclusion.
Our country flourishes because of the diversity of people who have chosen to make Canada their home. Canada’s diverse communities share and celebrate their cultures and traditions with residents in every corner of our city.
As a city proud of its multiculturalism, each and every community plays a part in enhancing Canada’s social and cultural landscape.
To the residents of Scarborough, please celebrate a safe and happy Canada Day with your friends, family and neighbours.
Happy Canada Day!
