June 19, 2016 – Father’s Day
Father’s Day is a day to honour not only our fathers, but all the men who have been a father-figure in our lives – brothers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, friends or ‘Big Brothers’.
The celebration of Father’s Day dates back to 1908. Over the last century, we have paid tribute to fathers and thanked them for their guidance, wisdom, unconditional love and support that have helped shape our lives.
In North America, we celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June. It is a very special time to cherish all that our fathers mean to us and remember what they have brought to our lives.
As the father of five and father-in-law of three, I know the special relationship I have with each of my children. Each of these relationships is extremely important to me.
This Father’s Day will be very different as my father has passed away. Although my Father is no longer with us, the day will be very much the same as each day this year has been – with him always in my thoughts.
I have learned that to be a father means to live inspired, possess humility and never miss an opportunity to tell your child you are proud of them.
