May 14, 2016 – Israeli Independence Day
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to members of the Canadian Jewish community on the occasion of Israeli Independence Day (Yom Ha’atzmaut.)
Israelis celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut in a variety of different ways. In major Cities such as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, night-time festivities are held on the main streets where crowds gather to watch public shows. In rural communities, many people spend the night dancing Israeli Folk songs. Yom Ha’atzmaut is concluded with a ceremony of granting the “Israel Prize.” This ceremony recognizes individual Israelis for their unique contribution to the country’s culture, science, arts and humanities.
Our city flourishes because of the diversity of people who have chosen to make Toronto their home. Toronto’s diverse communities share and celebrate their cultures and traditions with residents in every corner of our city.
As a city proud of its multiculturalism, each and every community plays a part in enhancing Toronto’s social and cultural landscape.
